Water services responsibility

Who looks after what?

What’s ours

Muchea Water – as the supplier of mains water – is responsible for and looks after all the water infrastructure to the boundary of your property, up to and including the water meter.

This infrastructure includes our production bore, the water treatment plant, pumps, storage tanks and all the mains pipe network to deliver water to your property boundary.

If there is a problem with the water meter, or if you see a leak or issue on the mains network beyond your property, please call us urgently on 08 9551 1620, so that we can address it.

What’s yours

Beyond the meter, each property owner is responsible for the connection including all the piping from the meter to your home or business and all the internal pipes in your home or business.

Any work on these internal pipes must be carried out by a licenced plumber.

Property owners are required to keep the area around the water meter clear of vegetation.  A clear space of at least 300mm horizontally and 1200mm vertically needs to be created around the water meter.

Don’t forget, you can check your water meter yourself 24/7, and that can be a handy way to see if you are using water unexpectedly, or to a get an idea of how much your reticulation is using, or if you have a leak.

If you do have an unusually high water bill, you may have a hidden leak and you will need to engage a licenced plumber.
